LIGHTING DESIGN - II LEVEL MASTER

The “Master in Lighting Design” has as its first aim the vocational training of lighting designers and lighting project managers. It consists of all day lessons a week per month, up to a total of 12 weeks.
The Master offers internships at local offices of firms leader in this field and at qualified professional offices, so as to create several work prospects. A service of simultaneous translations Italian /English English / Italian is available.
The schedule of lessons: Foundations of lighting design, colour and visual perception; Electric systems, Light sources, Natural light, Hardware for light: devices, supports and design; Software for calculation of lighting engineering and rendering; Light for habitat: places of residence, hotels, offices; Light in commercial spaces; Light in showrooms, Urban lighting, Monumental lighting, Light for entertainment.
Scholarships provided by the italian minister of foreign affairs (Ministero degli Esteri), by Regioni and by sponsors are available.

Until the 22nd of December it will be possible to enroll for the first second level master totally focused on the projectation of light in each of its fields.
The seventh edition of the second level Master in Lighting Design MLD will start on the 11th of january 2010, and it will give the possibility to the master’s students to receive scholarships provided by the Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs, by Italian Regioni and by sponsors.
Lessons will take place a week per month at the faculty of architecture in via Gianturco 2, in Rome.
The Master in Lighting design MLD, directed by prof. Corrado Terzi, startes in 2004 at University “La Sapienza” in Rome. Its aim is the vocational training of lighting designers and lighting project managers, highly soecialised professionals whose job is increasingly needed in the work market.
Since the 2nd edition of the MLD Master, firms leader in this field and professional offices have hired more than 70% of the masters’s students.
Students who have obtained an academic degree or a postgraduate degree can enroll for the master, whatever the faculty they graduated or their nationality.
Thanks to the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs which provided many scholarships, a process of internationalisation was started so that now foreign students represent more than 1/3 of the total students enrolled.
These students can avail of the simultaneous translation service Italian/English – English/Italian.
The Master is the result of the collaboration with the Sovraintendenza ai Beni Culturali del Comune di Roma that provided us with prestigious sits, such as the auditorium areas of the Ara Pacis and the Casina del Cardinal Bessarione, and took part to the didactics of the planning workshops like the lighting design project for the Trajan’s Column and the Emiciclo Napoleonico.
In the previous editions planning workshops were made in various fields:
- Lighting implantations for international concerts of Arte e Scienza 2006 with the collaboration of the CMR (Centro di Ricerche Musicali) in Rome;
- Interactive chromatic space in the children’s Museum “Explora” in Rome, with the collaboration oin collaboration with Artemide, the leader firm in the lighting sector;
- Project and setting of lights in exhibitions such as: “Adolf Loof: architettura, utilità e decoro” and “Emilio Vedova – 1919-2006” by the Galleria Nazionale di Arti Moderne in Rome.
