Call for Posters: 17th International Congress of Classical Archaeology Rome, Italian and foreign Archaeological Research Institutes

22-26 September 2008

The Organising Committee of the 17th International Congress of Classical Archaeology invites all archaeologists, scholars, postgraduate students and academics to submit proposals for posters around the theme: NEW WORK IN CLASSICAL ARCHAEOLOGY.

NEW: unpublished, recently discovered, preliminary results from recent or ongoing work.

WORK: both fieldwork/excavation and thematic research will be accepted.

CLASSICAL ARCHAEOLOGY: the archaeology of the ancient Mediterranean world, within the approximate limits of the Roman Empire.

Poster presentations will take place at Italian and foreign research Institutions in Rome: this is a unique opportunity to visit prestigious venues and get to know numerous research projects in Italy and abroad.
Poster proposals are to be emailed by 31st January 2008 together with title, name of author(s) and an abstract of maximum 200 words to: poster.aiaccongress2008@gmail.com

Important!

In order to allow for as many projects as possible to be exhibited, only 1 poster per research or fieldwork project will be accepted. For the same reason, no posters will be accepted for which the only author is already a speaker, or for which the presenter is going to be a speaker. The name of a speaker will be allowed on a poster only as co-author (i.e. together with one or more authors).

There is no limit to the number of authors involved in the research/fieldwork project and thus appearing on a poster. There are no restrictions as to the number of projects (and therefore posters) featuring the same author/s.

Posters will be selected according to the relevance of the proposed contribution to the theme: “New Work in Classical Archaeology”.

Due to the great number of proposals expected and to logistic constraints, the Committee wishes to stress that acceptance of Poster presentations (relevance to the proposed theme being equal) will work on a ‘first come, first accepted’ basis.

Poster presentations will take place during the Congress days in a number of Italian and foreign institutes across Rome. They will also be available electronically at the Congress venue.

Upon acceptance of the submitted proposal, each poster will need to be guaranteed a presenter (the author or one of the authors, with the exclusion of those who already participate in the Congress as speakers). Your poster, although accepted and received in both digital and paper format, will not be displayed until registration of the poster presenter has been received.

Speaker registration fees apply to individuals presenting posters, with the exception of postgraduate students to whom student fees apply.

PRACTICALITIES

All selected posters need to be supplied in both digital and paper format.

Please send a slide in Power Point® or a .JPEG copy of your poster by 30th June 2008 to: poster.aiaccongress2008@gmail.com

For each poster you also need to supply the following information.

a) for posters presenting fieldwork discoveries and results:

• Surname and name of author(s), affiliation(s), email address(es);

• Period covered: AD/BC;
• Discovery highlights: choose 3 keywords which should attract potentially interested colleagues.

b) for posters presenting thematic research results:

Such information will help us create a database which can be consulted by participants throughout the Congress.

Paper format: deadline 30th July 2008

Authors are responsible for preparing and printing their posters. No poster printing facilities will be available on the Congress premises.

Dimensions: format A0 = mm 841x1189

Orientation: portrait

Poster dimensions and orientation are compulsory requirements.

There are no other requirements for the preparation of posters. At the same time we would like to suggest the following:

• Use an easy-to-read font (Arial and Times New Roman are the more commonly used).
• Poster title: recommended font size is minimum 36.
• Below the title you may wish to put the author(s)' name(s) and affiliation(s), followed by email address(es).
• People will not read text-packed posters or small-sized text. Try to use an easy-to-read font and keep the font size of important points to 24+ if possible. The smallest text on your poster should be at least size 18.
• You may wish to prepare a few A4 copies of your poster (black and white), making it easier for interested colleagues to read.
