BARCELONA.-The surreal and innovative urban jungle project designed by the French architect Jean Nouvel, author of the Agbar Tower, in the district of Sant Marti begins to be a reality. The construction of the garden, known as Central Park Poblenou, are well advanced, and will open the doors to the public next September, coinciding with the patron saint festivities of the Mercè.
The new green space, bounded by Avenida Diagonal and the streets of Bac de Roda and Marroc, intended to be a single reference in Barcelona through an exuberance and ornamental plant that will break with the controversial model of the tough places.
One the most characteristic elements, the wall coated bougainvilleas and ivy surrounding its 55 hectares, is now almost finished. This gives a clear idea of how the garden, which integrates several streets, old industrial buildings and a reformed kaliferije pneumatic selective waste.
The plant will disappear from the view of pedestrians to be covered - as can be seen already - by the perimeter wall. The camouflage operation will be completed with the establishment on the roof of one of the thematic miniespacios provided by Nouvel in several areas of the garden. This will recreate a lunar landscape.
The wall has several entries - the main access will include an artistic wrought-iron gate - and voids in the form of window, all of Gaudinian evocation. We have already planted bougainvillea, and in the park, several hundred willow give a first green hue. There have also been lifted on the first metal arches that link in a future branches of the many plants that will form its varied cast botanist.
The neighbors, which claimed since 1999 that the construction of the central park of Poblenou, considered this wall as close and isolated in excess, which hampered their integration into the neighborhood. Another demand the inhabitants madef the was that the street Cristobal de Moura not cross the garden space to give more tranquility. However, the anticipated increase in circulation in the area makes this track in a key communication with the new Diagonal, which the council decided to open the stretch, which is already urbanized.
The same is true in the streets of Marroc and Espronceda. In the latter, which also crosses the park, arcs were installed that hold the tunnel of flowers under which vehicles pass.
Along with the tunnel there are old buildings on the factory Artès Oliva, awaiting rehabilitation to house the Centre d'Architecture in Barcelona, and the already rehabilitated City Police. Behind this building a pit has been excavated pit to irrigate the park. The opening of the complex will be done in phases.
